Leading Student-Staff Partnerships to Co-Create Curricula

Join this practical workshop to expand your knowledge about co-creating curricula with students. Tai and Amani have several years' experience of leading student-staff partnerships and we will share lessons we have learned. We will explore how to design such initiatives, how to overcome common setbacks, and how to establish measures of success. We will share resources that we and others have developed to help shape and enhance your partnership projects, with a particular focus on equity and diversity. The workshop will be interactive and there will be opportunities to gain peer feedback on your own student-staff partnership initiatives.

Associate Professor Amani Bell

Amani Bell is an Associate Professor of Work Integrated Learning in The University of Sydney School of Health Sciences. Her research focuses on students and staff working in partnership to enhance higher education, particularly to improve access and success for students from diverse backgrounds. She recently led a NCSEHE-funded research project Exploring benefits and challenges of online Work Integrated Learning for equity students. Amani is a Senior Fellow of, and accreditor for, the Higher Education Academy (now AdvanceHE).

Dr Tai Peseta

Dr Tai Peseta is a Senior Lecturer in the Learning Futures Team at Western Sydney University and she is a higher education researcher whose scholarly work sits at the intersection of Critical University Studies, the development of academic identities, doctoral curriculum, and the cultivation of learning and teaching cultures. Tai also leads the 21C Transforming Curriculum project, designed to transform curriculum and teaching for the challenges of the 21st century future of work and society. Tai is a Senior Fellow, UK Higher Education Academy.

Planning for Open Educational Resources Advocacy

As open education initiatives continue to gain traction in Australian higher education, the work of advocates has become critical to translate small pockets of good practice into strategically focused, evidence-based activities. This workshop is for staff involved in formal or informal open education advocacy at any level, and especially for those only beginning advocacy work - be it one on one advocacy, or advocacy to groups. It introduces an advocacy planning process, with an emphasis on localising action. Participants will have the opportunity to begin planning, and will have access to a curated collection of supporting open resources after the workshop.
