About

Welcome to the CAUL Enabling a Modern Curriculum Conference

Through their projects, partnerships and services, academic libraries play a critical role in enabling the modern curriculum and supporting the transformation of learning and teaching and enabling student success. This hybrid conference aims to enhance the capability of university library staff to meet the challenges and opportunities afforded by a modern curriculum by providing a flexible and accessible hybrid professional learning and networking experience offering both a national and local lens.

The conference has four sub themes:

  • Open resources to enable the curriculum
  • Evolving our digital practices
  • Bending and blending in learning and teaching
  • Partnering to enable a modern curriculum.

Participants will exchange ideas and be prompted to think critically about the library’s role in a modern curriculum through keynotes, panels, presentations, and lightning talks over two days of online content. Face-to-face workshops will provide an opportunity for a more hands-on learning experience and a chance for you to network with other staff in your state. The conference offers new learnings and practice-based knowledge sharing for expert staff across the Australian and New Zealand industry to embed in their work.

The conference is for

  • library staff at all levels with an interest in the role of academic libraries in enabling a modern curriculum
  • LIS academics
  • academics who partner with the library in delivering modern curriculum
  • LIS students.

Conference Dates

The conference will take place over three days in September 2022:

  • Online: 7 and 8 September
  • In person workshops: 13 September in Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne, Sydney and Perth.

The hybrid conference model means flexible attendance options. Participants can choose between in-person learning and digital experiences, or engage in both.

CAUL’s Enabling a Modern Curriculum Program

As the role of education in society is challenged and redefined by changes in the global economy, the new nature of work, and rapid technological advances, enabling a modern curriculum is essential.

A modern curriculum is defined by lifelong learning, student success, digital dexterity, career readiness and new learning paradigms. University libraries are well placed to build national partnerships for innovation and to work with academics to lead the transformation of learning and teaching at their institutions.

A modern curriculum can be achieved by re-imagining skill development, services, spaces and resources. Innovation can be driven through the development of sustainable, affordable and collective approaches to the provision of learning and information resources and the collective development of learning and information resources with access, equity, affordability, and diversity at their heart.

By enabling a modern curriculum, CAUL is prioritising the needs of library clients and promoting the success and career readiness of current and future university students and graduates.

The Enabling a Modern Curriculum program will focus on three key areas in 2021-22:

  • Enabling a Modern Curriculum through Open Educational Resources
  • Enabling a Modern Curriculum through Students as Partners
  • CAUL Conference.

Across these three areas, there are five projects, with three projects related to OER.
